Alternate Handlebar Possibilities for the BMW R1100RS/RSL

Using Aftermarket K Bar adapters

In the past I also briefly owned an K1200RS, which has a similar down-turned bar setup as the R1100RS. The seat-bar reach on the K1200RS is farther than the R1100RS, which for me necessitated finding a bar alternative.

This time I went with the Spiegler "AS clamp" system, which are two CNC-machined pieces that sit on top of the existing top triple clamp. Here's what it looked like:

I believe these parts could be fitted to the R1100RS - the pieces wouldn't exactly fit the dimensions of the top triple clamp (a cosmetic, not mechanical issue), but other than that they're probably fine. No, I haven't tried it, YMMV, etc.

Other Known Ways

Several owners have drilled the top triple clamp and added standard single pin bar clamps, either down through the two existing threaded holes used by the rubber dampeners, or adjacent to these holes.

Parts that Won't Work

The K1200RS uses a similar grooved adjustable bar-end design as the R1100RS, and there are several bar riser inserts available, such as the following:

The twisted bar-riser design is particularly appealing. This design raises and flattens the bar-end, all in one quick step. But, no ... sorry, these parts can't be directly used on a R1100RS as the groove spacing on the K1200RS is slightly, but just enough different from the R1100RS ... Why, who knows - thanks BMW! You can use the K1200RS design components on a R11X0RS IF you're willing to swap out the R bar stubs for the K part.
